Nap Time and Some Goo

Posted: February 12, 2018 in Uncategorized

Yesterday, I put Scarlett down for a nap. Simple enough right? Wrong!

About an hour later, she came out into the living room. Her hands were out in front of her, fingers spread wide. Her hair was plastered to her face and neck with some type of gunk. And her clothes were spotted with something. Now, I can’t smell. Anything. This is a separate conversation/post. Just know that I can’t smell unless it’s really strong or in front of my face. However, the scent coming from my daughter was a faint baby powder odor. She stared up at me with wide, sad eyes.

Scarlett: Mommy, I have goo.

Me: What?

Scarlett: There’s slime on my hands.

Me: Come here.

She inched closer to me, clearly aware that she had done something wrong.

Me: What did you do?

Scarlett: I was playing.

Me: What were you supposed to be doing?

Scarlett: Taking a nap.

Me: Let’s go.

At this point, I just sighed. There was no other option. I didn’t have a good feeling about any of this.

We walked back into her room and the baby powder smell was much stronger. I turned on the light and understood why. It was EVERYWHERE. Not only the baby lotion but the cocoa butter stick. She’d taken the cap off and used the stick to paint the lamp and the night stand. She’d taken the baby lotion and evidently, run her hands through her hair and then on her clothes.

We had a time-out followed by a bath at 2:30 in the afternoon and a lot of tears. She finally did take a nap at around 3:15 pm while sitting on my lap because she “needed a hug”.

That’s about the time my arm fell asleep.

I have a feeling the days of Scarlett taking a nap are slowly dwindling and I’m more than a little sad about that.
